12 MAY - 03 JUNE 2016

UP Vargas Museum, with support from The Working Animals Art Projects, opens Dexter Sy’s exhibition titled Terrain on May 12, Thursday, 4pm at the 3F Galleries of the museum.

In Terrain, Sy pursues his practice of focusing on kin and social ties by looking into the archive and the act of sifting through it. He gathers various materials from the collection presenting Jorge B. Vargas in a different light: not as a statesman, but as a private man engrossed in moments shared with his family. From these, he creates multi-layered forms inspired by geography, resulting in works that demarcate his subjects in various contexts of interaction.

Dexter Sy (b. 1979, Manila) received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Advertising from Far Eastern University. He was conferred the Maningning Miclat Art Foundation Art Competition Grand Prize in 2004, and he was part of the Haslla International Open Air Museum Residency and Haslla Art World Museum in Korea (2011, 2012 and 2015). He was a consistent Philippine Art Awards awardee, where he was given the Jurors Choice for Excellence in 2010 and 2012. He has exhibited in different galleries and museums here and abroad (USA, Thailand, China and Korea).
