12 MAY - 03 JUNE 2016

UP Vargas Museum, with support from The Working Animals Art Projects, opens LJ Ablola’s exhibition titled Right of Way on May 12, Thursday, 4pm at the 3F Landing and Hallway.

Right of Way explores the way the public interacts with and utilizes the urban space, where every nook and cranny becomes a site of transit and passage for the everyday. Here, one sees how the communal occupation of space rests upon the permission of the private sphere (the legitimate owners) and how the crowd finds different ways to maneuver and respond to these borrowed spaces.

LJ Ablola (b. 1979, Manila) received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Major in Advertising from Far Eastern University in 2004. That same year, she gained the 3rd Place recognition for the Product Packaging Category for the Far Eastern University 2nd Advertising Congress. She was part of the Haslla International Open Air Museum Residency and Hassla Art World Museum in Korea (2005 and 2012) and exhibited her works in Singapore for the 2nd edition Art Fair Singapore (2011) and SO Contemporary Exhibition, Lasalle College, Institute of Contemporary Art (2011). She mounted her solo shows in Boston Gallery (2012, 2013, and 2014), while her group shows have been organized here and abroad (Korea, Rome and Singapore).
