UP Vargas Museum opens Katti Sta Ana’s exhibition titled Devour on 3 November, Friday at the 3F Galleries of the museum. Reception of the show will happen on 9 November, Thursday at 6pm.

Clay is a material from the earth, closely linked with nature and the environment. The exhibition evokes in clay present-day human attitudes towards flora and fauna, and the earth in floral, animal, and human imagery and form, involving visual metaphor, satire, and analogy. Ceramic works here provide glimpses into how humans today and in recent history regard plants and animals. Then and now, ceramic works are testaments to the relationship between humans, plants and animals, characterized by wonder, fear, desire, joy, domination, and subjugation. Alongside the ceramics are images of the collector Jorge Vargas carrying out his duties as a government official in the field of agriculture, and the paintings of Fernando Amorsolo on the practice of cockfighting in the Philippines.

Devour runs until 1 December. The exhibition coincides with Paglulual International Ceramic Art Project 2017 of the UP College of Fine Arts.
